Preset tipping options frustrate diners, who see them as pressure, survey finds

Tipping prompts are appearing more often on payment terminals in Czech restaurants and pubs, giving customers several preset amounts or percentages to choose from before they complete a payment.

Customers can also enter a tip of their own choosing or reject tipping altogether. For some, the system offers a convenient way to reward staff for good service.

Others see the preset choices differently. They perceive the options as pressure to provide a tip, even when they might not otherwise have intended to do so.
