Presidency commends Uzodimma over infrastructure projects in Imo

The Presidency has officially commended Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, praising the scale and quality of infrastructure development undertaken throughout the state. Officials described the projects as tangible evidence of purposeful leadership and effective collaboration between the federal and state governments.

The commendation came during the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour, an initiative that brought together the Presidential Communications Team and over 40 senior journalists to inspect various completed and ongoing projects. Among the sites visited was the Imo Digital City, a facility where smartphones and laptops are assembled. This initiative is reportedly creating employment for young people and positioning Imo as a burgeoning hub for digital technology and innovation.

The healthcare projects, particularly the infectious disease centre and oxygen plant, as impactful investments that would improve healthcare delivery.

Further highlighting the administration's focus on healthcare, the delegation toured the construction of a 2,000-bed infectious disease center, developed in partnership with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). This facility is expected to significantly bolster Nigeria's capacity to respond to infectious disease outbreaks. Other key projects included the ongoing Heart Transplant Centre at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital in Orlu, an expansion of the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Convention Centre to accommodate over 2,000 seats, and a five-star hotel project backed by the state government.

The project is expected to address gully erosion while improving interstate connectivity, trade and regional integration.

Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, stated that these projects directly support President Bola Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda." He specifically noted the healthcare investments, such as the infectious disease center and an oxygen plant, as impactful contributions to improving healthcare delivery nationwide. The tour also covered the 19-kilometer Orlu–Akokwa–Uga Border Road, which aims to enhance interstate connectivity, facilitate trade, and address gully erosion issues. Additionally, the establishment of the Imo State University of Innovation, Science and Technology was praised for its focus on science, technology, engineering, and innovation, aligning with the federal government's objective of fostering a knowledge-based economy.
