President Lee Appoints Im Ki-geun as Minister for Government Policy Coordination

President Lee Jae-myung has appointed Im Ki-geun, previously the Vice Minister of Planning and Budget, to the key position of Minister for Government Policy Coordination. The announcement was made by Presidential Press Secretary Sung Ki-hong during a briefing at the Blue House.

President Lee expressed confidence in Im's ability to manage national affairs, citing his extensive experience in coordinating intricate economic policies. "We expect him to rationally coordinate inter-ministerial understanding and stably manage national agenda items with his experience in coordinating complex economic policies," Sung stated. He added that Im is the "right person to support an irreplaceable South Korea's leap forward as a leading industrial power and growth for all citizens by assisting the Prime Minister."

Im Ki-geun began his public service career in 1992 after passing the Higher Civil Service Examination. He has since held significant roles within the Ministry of Economy and Finance, including Director-General of Policy Coordination and Chief Budget Review Officer. Prior to his current appointment, he also served as the Administrator of the Public Procurement Service.

The Minister for Government Policy Coordination, a position at the ministerial level, plays a crucial role in assisting the Prime Minister and overseeing national affairs comprehensively. Im's appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the government's policy coordination capabilities.
