President Lee Celebrates Publication of Roh Moo-hyun Biography: “Roh’s Dream Is Still Unfolding”

President Lee Jae-myung marked the publication of a biography of former President Roh Moo-hyun by describing Roh’s political vision as an unfinished task for the present.

I sincerely congratulate the publication of this meaningful biography of President Roh Moo-hyun.

In a Facebook post on Aug. 31, Lee said the book could offer a new opportunity for people who remember Roh to reflect, while allowing generations unfamiliar with him to encounter his life and times. He said rereading a person’s life also means returning to the ideas and dreams that person left behind.

Lee wrote that most memories fade with time, but some become clearer. For him, he said, “Roh Moo-hyun” was one of those memories. He added that Roh’s absence still felt unfamiliar, despite the years that had passed.

For me, the three syllables ‘Roh Moo-hyun’ are one of those memories.

Lee also reflected on Roh’s path from the perspective of someone who had since become president. He said Roh’s struggles, loneliness and the weight of his decisions reached him differently now than before.

The dream President Roh held throughout his life, a world where people live as people, remains an ongoing task for us.

The president linked the biography to Roh’s long-held vision of “a world where people live as people.” He said remembering Roh should not stop at nostalgia, but should involve confronting the questions Roh raised and seeking answers for the current era. Lee called for principles grounded in reality and solutions that change people’s lives rather than remaining at the level of slogans.
