President Lee meets SK Chairman Chey for talks on semiconductor investment

This meeting occurred about a month after their previous encounter at the AI Summit held in San Francisco.

While the Presidential Office stated that confirmation of the president's private schedules is difficult, industry sources indicate that the meeting likely addressed advanced industry investments, including semiconductors. Given the government's push for three major "mega-projects" centered around SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics, discussions may have focused on investment plans and project progress.

Industry observers are also speculating that the conversation might have included dialogues related to investment negotiations with the United States. The U.S. administration, under the previous Trump administration and continuing pressure, has been urging Korean companies like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix to increase their manufacturing investments within the U.S.

Industry insiders anticipate that President Lee may continue a series of meetings with other major corporate leaders, such as Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo. President Lee previously hosted dinners for Lee Jae-yong, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chairman Euisun Chung, and Koo Kwang-mo at his official residence in July of the previous year.
