President Lee visits Baegun Valley, highlighting cleanup success

President Lee Jae-myung visited Baegun Valley in Pocheon on May 24 to inspect its current state of use and safety management. This area holds significance for the president, as he initiated a strong crackdown on illegal facilities and operations during his tenure as governor of Gyeonggi Province.

During his visit, President Lee engaged with citizens and local merchants who frequent the valley. One resident from Namyangju Jinjeop shared that they have been visiting the valley annually since childhood, appreciating that they can now enjoy it comfortably without paying usage fees, a change attributed to the cleanup efforts.

Baegun Valley was previously notorious for over 1,600 illegal structures and widespread illegal business practices, including merchants charging usage fees to visitors. President Lee's administration had undertaken整備 efforts by communicating with local merchant associations.

The president inquired about business conditions with the merchants and learned about winter operations, including the "Baegun Valley Winter General" festival. He also instructed Yoon Ho-jung, the Minister of the Interior and Safety, to bolster management of the valley, including deploying cleaning crews. Additionally, he inspected a neglected ski resort in the vicinity.
