President Samia to Inaugurate Sh17 Billion KCMC Cancer Centre

President Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to inaugurate a significant new cancer treatment facility at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in the Northern Zone Referral Hospital. The Sh17 billion radiotherapy services building, funded by the government, represents a major step forward in enhancing cancer care for the region.

The new center is designed to serve approximately 1,500 patients each year. Its establishment is expected to alleviate the considerable hardship faced by cancer patients who previously had to undertake long and difficult journeys to Dar es Salaam for essential radiotherapy treatment at the Ocean Road Cancer Institute.

Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner Nurdin Babu announced the President's planned one-day visit for June 24, 2026. He highlighted that the facility's construction was a priority under the Sixth Phase Government, underscoring the administration's commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and accessibility for its citizens. The project's completion marks a crucial development for cancer patients in northern Tanzania.
