President to Grant Amnesty on August 17, Recipients Must Join Reserve Component

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is preparing to grant amnesty to prisoners on August 17, but recipients must first complete reserve component (Komcad) training. Immigration and Prison Minister Agus Andrianto announced the plan, emphasizing it as a measure to alleviate overcrowding in correctional facilities.

He urged inmates to engage positively in rehabilitation programs to be eligible for the presidential pardon.

The amnesty is intended for inmates under 35 years old. Instead of immediate release, they will undergo Komcad training to instill discipline. This initiative follows a previous amnesty granted by President Prabowo in 2025 to 1,178 inmates. The President's prerogative to grant amnesty is based on Article 14 of the Indonesian Constitution, with consideration from the House of Representatives.

I convey an appeal to friends who are currently undergoing the penal process, follow the coaching and mentoring process well. Hopefully, from the assessment of the officers, friends will get the opportunity to receive amnesty from Mr. President.

Andrianto also highlighted the issue of prison overcrowding, which contributes to health problems among inmates, including tuberculosis transmission. In response, the Ministry of Immigration and Prisons is collaborating with the Ministry of Health for a nationwide TB screening targeting over 272,000 inmates across 532 facilities.
