Prince Harry and Meghan move back to Britain, Trump says he is glad they left the US

U.S. President Donald Trump said he was pleased that Prince Harry and Meghan had left the United States, and added that he would not have allowed them to return if he belonged to the British royal family.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he had never supported the couple. His comments came a week after Harry and Meghan moved from their home in Montecito, California, back to Britain.

Trump criticized Harry’s relationship with the royal family and said he believed the couple had shown deep disrespect toward it. He singled out Meghan’s conduct and said he believed she had been highly disrespectful toward Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III.

I think they were extremely disrespectful to the royal family. I don’t like that. I don’t like the way she acted. I think she was extremely disrespectful to the Queen and to King Charles III.

Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royal family deteriorated six years ago after they sharply criticized the institution. They then left Britain for the United States. Harry’s recent visits to Britain appear to have helped repair his relationship with his father, who is undergoing cancer treatment. Reports have said, however, that relations with his brother, Prince William, and William’s wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, remain strained.

Trump said he would have handled the situation differently. “Maybe I’m different,” he told reporters, adding that if he were a royal family member, he would not let the couple return.
