Prison Guards Thwart Elaborate Movie-Like Escape Attempt in Chile

Puerto Montt, Chile – A daring escape attempt by three inmates at the Alto Bonito Penitentiary Complex in Puerto Montt was foiled by vigilant prison guards. The elaborate plan, reminiscent of cinematic escapes, was discovered during a routine inmate count.

Officials found suspicious elements that led to a more thorough search of the facility. In a bathroom, they uncovered remnants of a dismantled wall and cement dust, along with more than 15 meters of crudely made rope. The discovery pointed to a meticulously planned escape.

The most critical find was on the third level of the prison: a modified window in a cell occupied by the three inmates, prepared for removal. The regional Secretary of Justice for Los Lagos, Claudio Valdivia, praised the guards' diligence. "Thanks to the meticulous and professional work of the Gendarmerie officials, the evasion plan was detected and thwarted in time," Valdivia stated. "There was no escape, and those involved were preventively transferred to another area of the unit."
