Prithvi Highway closed after road subsides at Krishnabhir

The Prithvi Highway has fallen silent after part of the road subsided at Krishnabhir on the Nagdhunga-Muglin route, leaving vehicles from Kathmandu stopped at Kalanki and roadside hotels and shops without their usual traffic.

The Kathmandu-Muglin section is a key transport link for the capital, connecting it with other parts of Nepal and external markets. Its complete closure has already disrupted movement along the highway and created concern over the flow of goods into Kathmandu Valley.

The Department of Roads has sent a technical team to examine the damaged section. Director General Dr Bijay Jaisi said the team reached the site on Sunday and was carrying out a detailed study. Reopening work will begin after it makes recommendations.

The disruption has also raised concerns about consumer supplies and prices in the capital. Flood-related closures on major roads could affect deliveries to Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Market, Kathmandu Valley’s main wholesale market for vegetables.
