Private water park near Lahore sealed after nine-year-old girl allegedly dies after getting trapped in drainage pipe

The Lahore district administration has sealed the Sozo Water Park in Batapur following the alleged death of a nine-year-old girl who became trapped in a drainage pipe. The incident occurred on Monday when park officials reportedly began draining a swimming pool without first ensuring all children had exited the water.

According to police, the powerful suction from a high-capacity drainage pump pulled the girl into the pipe, where she became trapped. Rescue teams searched for approximately 40-50 minutes before locating her, but she could not be revived. Three park officials have since been arrested after a criminal case was registered based on the complaint of the victim's mother.

An investigation has been launched to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, determine the extent of negligence and fix responsibility on those responsible for the incident.

The victim's mother has accused the water park administration of negligence, leading to her daughter's death. The First Information Report (FIR) names the park's manager, security in-charge, and CCTV in-charge. The spokesperson for the Deputy Inspector General of Police Operations confirmed the arrests and stated that an investigation is underway to determine the extent of negligence and assign responsibility.

Investigators are examining the decision to drain the pool with children still inside and whether mandatory safety measures around the drainage system were disregarded. The police official assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible and that justice would be served for the girl. The water park remains sealed, and all activities have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
