Prižmić withdraws from US tournament due to injury; was set to play Hewitt's son

Croatian tennis player Dino Prižmić has been forced to withdraw from the ATP 250 tournament in Winston-Salem due to a left hip injury. The 21-year-old Split native was set to compete in the main draw of the event.

Prižmić's first-round opponent was slated to be 17-year-old Cruz Hewitt, the son of Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt. Hewitt, ranked 376th in the ATP rankings, entered the Winston-Salem main draw with a wildcard.

Following Prižmić's withdrawal, Hewitt will now face American qualifier Sebastian Gorzny, ranked 782nd in the ATP. Gorzny had previously defeated another Croatian player, Borna Gojo, at a Challenger event in Lexington earlier in August.

Despite the setback in Winston-Salem, Prižmić has already secured direct entry into the main draw of the US Open, the season's final Grand Slam tournament. The US Open is scheduled to commence on August 31 in New York.

Meanwhile, Borna Gojo (ATP - 162) will attempt to qualify for the US Open, with his first opponent being Czech player Zdenek Kolar (ATP - 175). Luka Mikrut (ATP - 176) is also competing in the US Open qualifiers, facing Spaniard Nicolas Sanchez Izquierdo (ATP - 219) in his opening match.
