Probe killing of Osun teenager, PDP tells IG

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is demanding a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation into the murder of Ezekiel Olapade, a teenager allegedly shot dead in Ilobu by political thugs. The party urged the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to oversee the probe and ensure justice is served.

In a statement signed by party chairman Sunday Bisi, the PDP decried the killing and insisted that all individuals connected to the crime must be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice, regardless of their political affiliation or status. The party also alleged that police operatives invaded the residence of the PDP chairman in Irepodun Local Government Area on June 29 without invitation, damaging his belongings.

The PDP considers this development disturbing and capable of creating the impression that the investigation process is being deliberately diverted from individuals allegedly linked to the crime towards political opponents. Accordingly, we call on the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission, the National Human Rights Commission and other relevant institutions to closely monitor this investigation and ensure that it is conducted fairly, professionally and without political interference.

The PDP expressed concern that this development could create the impression that the investigation is being deliberately diverted from those allegedly linked to the crime towards political opponents. They called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission, and the National Human Rights Commission to closely monitor the investigation to ensure fairness, professionalism, and freedom from political interference.

Furthermore, the PDP chairman requested an investigation into reported threats against Amotekun personnel before the attack, and the questioning of alleged owners of the vehicle used by the suspected thugs. They also sought an explanation from the Osun State Police Command regarding the operation at the chairman's residence and an assurance of law enforcement's political neutrality and adherence to the rule of law. The party vowed to stand with Olapade's family in their pursuit of justice and resist any attempts to politicize or compromise the investigation.
