Profeco: Eight in 10 stations sell diesel for no more than 27 pesos per litre under new six-month deal

Eight in 10 fuel stations in Mexico are keeping diesel prices at or below 27 pesos per litre, according to César Iván Escalante Ruiz, head of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency, known as Profeco.

Speaking at the presidential press conference, Escalante said President Claudia Sheinbaum had signed a voluntary agreement with fuel retailers the previous week. The agreement extends the National Strategy to Promote the Stabilisation of Regular Gasoline and Diesel Prices for another six months, through March next year.

Last week President Claudia Sheinbaum led the signing of this new voluntary agreement, which will last six more months, that is, until March next year, and with that we would complete two years with regular gasoline priced at 24 pesos per litre.

The extension would bring the period of capped regular gasoline prices to two years. Escalante said the national average for regular gasoline stood at 23.68 pesos per litre, while diesel had reached the 27-peso average that authorities had been seeking.

He said more stations were joining the effort to offer what he called fair prices. Escalante also encouraged consumers to check Profeco's live virtual map to find stations offering the agreed prices.

Eight out of 10 gas stations keep diesel at a maximum of 27 pesos per litre.
