Profeco recognizes gas station owners for respecting diesel price agreement; 84% compliance reported

The Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (Profeco) announced that 84% of the country's gas stations are adhering to an agreement to maintain diesel prices below 27 pesos per liter. Profeco head Iván Escalante reported this compliance during a press conference on Monday, noting that approximately 8,600 stations are meeting the price cap.

Escalante stated that the average diesel price is currently 27 pesos and five centavos, very close to the target of staying under 27 pesos. Profeco is utilizing a system to track the prices at various stations, ensuring adherence to the agreement.

In addition to diesel prices, Escalante also provided an update on the price of the basic food basket, which comprises 24 essential products. He indicated that the goal for this basket is 910 pesos for families and reported "very good results" in achieving this objective. As an example, the price of whole chicken per kilogram was cited at 39.66 pesos.
