Professor Kim Soo-jin Moderates Salvadoran Literature Forum at Embassy Event

Professor Kim Soo-jin of the Spanish Department at Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (CUFS) recently served as the moderator for a literary discussion event organized by the Embassy of El Salvador in Korea. Titled "Recorrido por la Literatura Salvadoreña" (A Journey Through Salvadoran Literature), the event successfully introduced the rich literary landscape of El Salvador to a Korean audience.

The gathering, held at the Cervantes Institute in Seoul on July 20, aimed to showcase the literary achievements and unique authors of El Salvador, a nation with a significant literary heritage that may be less familiar to Korean readers. The first part of the event delved into the history of Salvadoran literature from its independence to modern times, highlighting key authors and their accomplishments, alongside readings from invited authors.

In the second part, Professor Kim Soo-jin guided a panel discussion. Two authors based in Korea and two authors participating online from El Salvador shared their diverse creative journeys. They discussed their work across various genres, including novels, children's stories, poetry, and songwriting, offering candid insights into their artistic worlds and experiences as writers.

For many years, we have enriched our country's cultural heritage with Salvadoran writers' literary achievements. We wanted to introduce them to Korean readers, especially by inviting new generation writers to directly share their work and creative experiences.

Federico Guerrero, the Ambassador of El Salvador to Korea, expressed his hope that the event would introduce Salvadoran writers' literary achievements to Korean readers and foster greater cultural exchange. He specifically mentioned the desire to introduce emerging writers and their work. Professor Kim Soo-jin echoed this sentiment, calling the event a meaningful first step in ongoing cultural and academic exchanges between the Embassy and CUFS, and expressing anticipation for future programs that will continue to promote Salvadoran art and culture in Korea.

The Spanish Department at CUFS, which currently has over 770 students, is the only Spanish language program at a cyber university in Korea. The university actively pursues international cooperation, offering opportunities for students to experience and engage with the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries beyond language education. CUFS is committed to expanding its global network and strengthening its position as a leading global educational institution.
