Progressive Jewish US lawmaker chased from transgender event, accused of ‘genocide’

California Congressional candidate Scott Wiener, a prominent Jewish politician, was confronted and forced to leave a transgender community march in San Francisco. The incident, which occurred on Friday, marks the second time this week Wiener has faced anti-Israel harassment.

Video footage from the event shows activists accosting Wiener, with some shouting accusations of supporting "genocide" in Gaza. One activist, while filming, told Wiener, "I think your policy on the genocide in Gaza is terrible. I think you do not belong here." Other attendees reportedly shouted, "We fucking hate you," and made offensive gestures.

The confrontation occurred at Dolores Park during the transgender parade. Activists also directed chants such as, "Fuck you and your Zionist handlers. Fuck you and your Israeli handlers," and "You stopped being queer the moment you started supporting Israel, you piece of shit," at Wiener as he left.

Wiener, who is gay and a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ community, has supported Israel's right to exist but has also criticized the Netanyahu government and the war in Gaza. He has opposed military aid to Israel and previously accused Israel of genocide under pressure from the left, a stance that drew criticism from many in the mainstream Jewish community.

This incident follows a separate encounter on Wednesday where an anti-Zionist activist harassed Wiener at a San Francisco bar. The increasing number of such incidents has fueled concerns about rising antisemitism within left-wing political circles in the US.
