"Project Hail World": Ryan Gosling's film now on Prime Video

Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a science professor who wakes up completely alone aboard a spaceship light-years from Earth. He has no memory of who he is or how he got there, but as fragments of his memory return, he discovers he was sent on a desperate mission to save humanity.

The mission involves finding the source of a strange substance that is causing the Sun to lose energy. Grace must rely on his scientific knowledge and ingenuity to solve this seemingly impossible problem. During his journey, he discovers he might not be the only intelligent being in the universe.

The film, directed by the creative minds behind "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and "The LEGO Movie," is an adaptation of Andy Weir's novel. Drew Goddard, who previously adapted Weir's "The Martian," penned the screenplay.

"Project Hail Mary" became a box office phenomenon in 2026, grossing $141 million worldwide on its opening weekend. It was the year's best debut and Amazon MGM Studios' most significant opening. Beyond its commercial success, the film garnered praise for its blend of science, humor, and a story about friendship, cooperation, and survival against a humanity-threatening danger, a formula that has become Andy Weir's signature since "The Martian."
