Prolonged dry season leaves two Jakarta neighborhoods facing water shortages

Two urban villages in North Jakarta are already experiencing drought as Jakarta faces a prolonged dry season. Governor Pramono Anung identified Kalibaru and Semper, both in Cilincing district, during a preparedness event for the dry season.

As you can see, two urban villages are already experiencing drought today, namely Kalibaru and Semper.

The Jakarta provincial government is working with the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency and other institutions to address the shortage. Officials have prepared 29 water tanks supplied by 10 participating agencies.

The disaster agency and PAM Jaya have also established communication channels for residents affected by the drought. Jakarta disaster agency chief Marulitua Sijabat said residents should report cases through emergency number 112, after which officials will coordinate clean-water distribution with PAM Jaya.

Twenty-nine tanks from 10 participating institutions have been provided to address the water shortage in Jakarta.

Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency had forecast that the dry season would peak between August and September 2026. The El Niño phenomenon is expected to continue until early 2027.

If residents encounter drought conditions, they should immediately report them to 112, and we will coordinate with PAM Jaya to distribute clean water.
