Prosecutor's Car Set on Fire in Valjevo; Arson Linked to Case

A prosecutor's vehicle in Valjevo, Serbia, was targeted in an overnight arson attack, with police confirming the car was doused with flammable liquid and set ablaze. Vukašin Vujicic, a prosecutor at the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Valjevo, believes the incident is connected to a case he is currently handling. He indicated that he has been the subject of media attention recently, suggesting a potential motive. Vujicic is reportedly overseeing proceedings against a criminal group allegedly linked to the Serbian Progressive Party. This group is under investigation following a social media video showing its leader and associates assaulting a man. Unofficial reports suggest Vujicic resisted pressure to intervene in favor of the group's members. He was also notably the only prosecutor in Valjevo to publicly condemn remarks made by President Aleksandar Vucic regarding the replacement of prosecutors perceived as not upholding order. Students and high schoolers from Valjevo issued a statement condemning the arson, characterizing it as an attack following weeks of public targeting and alleged threats against Vujicic. They praised him as one of the few prosecutors in the city who has consistently upheld justice despite pressure, urging state institutions to conduct a thorough investigation.
