Prosecutor's Office Reports Rise in Drug Arrests and Investigations

Bulgaria's Specialized Interdepartmental Unit, comprising prosecutors and Ministry of Interior officials, has reported a significant increase in law enforcement activity related to drug offenses during May 2026. The data, covering the period from May 1 to May 31, shows a rise in both the number of individuals arrested and the number of pre-trial investigations initiated.

According to the press center of the unit, the statistics reflect a heightened focus on combating drug trafficking and related crimes across the country. The increase in arrests suggests more successful operations by law enforcement agencies in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in the drug trade.

Simultaneously, the rise in initiated pre-trial proceedings indicates a more thorough investigative approach, aiming to build strong cases against those suspected of drug-related offenses.
