Prosecutors extend lawmaker Han Dong-hoon's travel ban by a month

Prosecutors investigating the remaining cases of three special prosecutor probes have extended lawmaker Han Dong-hoon's travel ban by another month. The ban, initially imposed on April 13, will now last until July 12, totaling three months.

The special prosecution team is examining allegations that the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's presidential office improperly interfered with the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office's investigation into the Ssangbangul North Korea-related remittance case. During parliamentary inquiries, it was suggested that the prosecution team at the time pressured Lee Hwa-young, former vice governor of Gyeonggi Province, to provide testimony implicating President Lee Jae-myung.

Han, who served as Justice Minister during the 2022-2023 period when the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office was investigating the Ssangbangul case, took to Facebook to denounce the extension. "The political special prosecutor of the Lee Jae-myung administration is playing a childish game of chicken," he wrote. "Today, without any reason, without doing anything, they extended my travel ban again. They've put a travel ban on Han Dong-hoon three times, what have they done in the meantime? Is it embarrassing to just drop it now after putting a travel ban on me to prevent my election victory?"
