Prosecutors investigate soldiers accused of indecent touching of students in Amazonas

The Provincial Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Crimes of Violence Against Women and Family Members in Condorcanqui has launched a preliminary investigation into two volunteer soldiers. They are accused of the alleged crime of indecent touching against two adolescents, aged 15 and 16.

According to initial reports, the incident took place early Monday morning inside the student residence of the Ciro Alegría educational institution in the Nieva district of Condorcanqui province, Amazonas. The accused soldiers allegedly entered the students' sleeping quarters irregularly. The adolescents' cries for help prompted the soldiers to flee the scene.

The school director, Julio Gallardo Galván, filed the complaint. Following the report, assistant provincial prosecutor Billbray Orlando Campos Surichaqui ordered urgent actions to clarify the events and protect the victims' integrity. These actions include an anticipatory hearing via a Gesell chamber interview, a prosecutorial inspection of the scene, statements from the dorm supervisors who assisted the adolescents, and physical and sexual integrity evaluations.

The Public Ministry has also requested that the competent court issue immediate protection measures for the minors. The complaint has raised concerns among local indigenous organizations. The Awajún, Wampis, Umukai Yawi Women's Council (Comuawuy) alerted authorities to the alleged entry of uniformed personnel into the school residence and demanded an investigation to determine responsibility. The organization noted that the students remain at the school due to the distance from their home communities.

The Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP) has condemned the events and called for a swift investigation. The ministry stated that its team has traveled to the community to guide the victims' families and activated its specialized care and protection services through the Warmi Ñan national program. The alleged aggressors are reportedly detained at a police station, and the ministry emphasized that no act of violence against girls and adolescents should go unpunished. The Prosecutor's Office continues its inquiries to fully clarify the incident and determine the criminal responsibility of those under investigation.
