Protest in Bodrum demands 'right to equal and free use of coasts'

Members of the Gümüşlük Forum gathered in Bodrum, Turkey, to protest the diminishing public access to coastal areas. They pointed out that in recent years, a significant portion of the coastline has been allocated for commercial use, leading to a reduction in spaces freely available to citizens.

The forum emphasized that the conversion of coastal areas for commercial purposes requires careful consideration of the public interest. They stressed that access to and use of the coast should never be contingent upon payment or restricted to the use of a specific business establishment.

Protesters called for the preservation of the public character of the coastlines, ensuring uninterrupted and free access to the sea for all. They urged for the implementation of practices that prioritize public benefit in coastal development.

Concluding their demonstration, Gümüşlük Forum members linked hands on Gümüşlük beach, chanting slogans affirming that the shores and coasts belong to the people. Other citizens supported the action with applause and chants, underscoring the community's desire to protect these shared natural and public assets.
