PRP clears Donald Duke, two others for presidential primaries

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) is intensifying preparations for its presidential primaries, scheduled for Monday, May 25, by screening and clearing three aspirants. Among those who received the party's endorsement are former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke, notable economist Dr. Nnaoke Ufere from Abia State, and former African Action Congress presidential candidate Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley from Edo State.

Muhammed Ishaq, the National Publicity Secretary of the PRP, announced the development on Saturday. He stated that all three cleared aspirants have agreed to abide by the outcome of the democratic process during the party's nationwide primaries. "The three cleared presidential aspirants of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) have convened and unanimously agreed to submit their aspirations to the will of our party members during the upcoming primaries scheduled for May 25 across all parts of the country," Ishaq said.

The party highlighted that the aspirants' conduct exemplifies the PRP's dedication to internal democracy and consensus-building ahead of the general elections. "The PRP takes pride in the calibre of its aspirants, whose dedication to democratic principles and commitment to teamwork have further strengthened our party," the statement read.

The PRP plans to conduct credible, transparent, and free primaries, with over 260 aspirants competing for various elective offices, particularly where consensus cannot be reached. The party, founded on the ideology of the late Aminu Kano, has been working to reposition itself by attracting new members and expanding its national base.
