PSC releases 50,000 new constables to police for training

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially transferred 50,000 newly recruited police constables to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for their mandatory training. This handover marks a significant step in bolstering the nation's security apparatus.

The recruitment exercise adhered to President Bola Tinubu's directive, issued on November 26, 2025, as part of a nationwide security emergency response. The PSC opened its application portal on December 15, 2025, extending the deadline twice to accommodate more applicants, concluding the exercise approximately seven months after its commencement.

Retired Justice Paul Galumje, Commissioner I at the PSC, presided over the handover ceremony. He formally presented the successful candidates, along with a detailed list on a flash drive, to the NPF. Galumje thanked President Tinubu for his support throughout the recruitment process. DIG Isyaku Mohammed, representing the Inspector-General of Police, received the recruits, commending the PSC for a transparent exercise and assuring that training would begin nationwide upon fund release.

Ibrahim Muhammad, Director of Police Service Department at the Ministry of Police Affairs, also described the recruitment process as credible and transparent. PSC Secretary Onyemuche Nnamani attributed the successful completion to effective collaboration among all stakeholders, highlighting the teamwork involved.

This influx of 50,000 constables is expected to significantly strengthen the NPF's manpower. Following their training at designated police colleges and approved institutions, these new officers will be deployed to enhance security operations across the country.
