PSG down Aston Villa to retain UEFA Super Cup

Paris Saint-Germain solidified their position as Europe's top club by clinching the UEFA Super Cup with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in Salzburg, Austria. The Champions League winners demonstrated their dominance, retaining the title they first secured 12 months ago.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for PSG in the 20th minute with a powerful shot. Villa responded before halftime, with teenager Brian Madjo equalizing in the 45th minute after a precise cross from John McGinn. However, Desire Doue secured the win for PSG in the second half, ensuring they defended their Super Cup crown.

Both teams fielded strong lineups ahead of their domestic seasons. PSG's starting XI included nine players who triumphed in the Champions League final. Aston Villa, while resting some World Cup participants, handed debuts to midfielder Joao Gomes and striker Madjo. Midfielder Boubacar Kamara also returned from injury.
