Puerto Rico beats Türkiye 75-71 to eliminate the team from the FIBA Women’s World Cup

Puerto Rico overturned Türkiye’s lead and won 75-71, ending Türkiye’s run at the FIBA 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup.

Türkiye led 20-19 after the first quarter and went into halftime ahead 40-37. The team extended its advantage to eight points in the third quarter and entered the final period with a 58-51 lead.

Puerto Rico opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run and moved in front, 59-58, in the 32nd minute. It later built a seven-point lead at 67-60. Türkiye fought back to cut the gap to two points, but Puerto Rico held on.

Sevgi Uzun led Türkiye with 18 points, while Elif Bayram scored 13 before leaving the game. Puerto Rico was led by Andrea Guirantes with 21 points, followed by San Antonio with 18 and McGee-Stafford with 16.

The result left Türkiye fourth and last in Group C. Puerto Rico finished third and earned a place in the quarterfinal qualifying round. Belgium beat Australia 80-68 to win all three group games and advance directly to the quarterfinals, while Australia also moved into the qualifying round. Bayram injured her left wrist while attempting to collect an offensive rebound in the 31st minute and watched the rest of the game from the sideline after receiving ice treatment.
