Punta Bergantín to Launch Program Measuring Economic Impact

The development of Punta Bergantín, a new tourist hub, will be accompanied by a continuous research program designed to measure its economic, social, and territorial impact on Villa Montellano, Puerto Plata, and other communities in the Dominican Republic's northern region. This initiative is part of a collaborative agreement involving the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (Pucmm), the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), and the Fideicomiso para el Desarrollo Económico y Social de la Zona de Punta Bergantín.

The research program aims to generate crucial information about the effects of this burgeoning tourist destination on its surrounding areas. It will meticulously track key indicators such as job creation, income levels, entrepreneurial activity, investment flows, and overall quality of life. A longitudinal database will be established to facilitate the evaluation of the project's progress through semiannual and annual reports.

Andrés Marranzini, the general director of Punta Bergantín, stated that the project is already generating significant economic benefits and intends to act as a catalyst for development across the entire region. He praised the contributions of university professionals and students in gathering evidence of this transformation and identifying new opportunities.

Minister of Tourism David Collado emphasized that the Dominican Republic's tourism growth strategy relies heavily on constant data analysis to understand visitor profiles and refine international promotion efforts. He noted that the Ministry receives daily data on tourist arrivals, analyzing factors like origin, family composition, and travel preferences. Collado affirmed that this data-driven methodology has fueled sustained tourism growth and market diversification, making it vital for assessing Punta Bergantín's long-term impact.
