Putin and Trump could meet on sidelines of China forum

A meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump could take place on the sidelines of the upcoming APEC summit in China, according to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.

Both leaders plan to attend the gathering, Ushakov said. Russia will seek to arrange separate meetings for Putin, including one with Chinese President Xi Jinping. If an opportunity arises, Putin could also meet with the U.S. president.

"If the opportunity arises, our leader will also meet with the president of the United States," Ushakov said in an interview with Vesti. He added that the substance of any Putin-Trump discussion would depend on how long it lasted.

The comments came a day after Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met Putin in Moscow to discuss the possibility of ending the war in Ukraine. After leaving Moscow, the U.S. envoys traveled to Kyiv.

The annual APEC leaders' meeting is scheduled for Nov. 18 and 19 in Shenzhen, in China's Guangdong province. Leaders of the 21 APEC member economies are expected to attend.
