Quad group 'deeply concerned' over South China Sea situation, criticizes China

The United States, India, Japan, and Australia, collectively known as the Quad group, have voiced "deep concern" regarding the escalating tensions in the South and East China Seas. While not explicitly naming China, their joint statement clearly targeted Beijing's actions in the strategically vital waterways.

During a meeting in New Delhi, the foreign ministers condemned "dangerous maneuvers by military aircraft" and "ramming and blockade actions" in the South China Sea. They also expressed alarm over the militarization of disputed territories, which China claims. The ministers reaffirmed their "resolute opposition to any destabilizing or unilateral actions, including the use of force or coercion, that threaten peace and stability in the region."

The Quad, seen as a democratic counterbalance to China's regional power, highlighted concerns over the expansion of China's naval capabilities. Beijing, in response, criticized the Quad, stating that international cooperation should not target any third party and that China opposes "exclusive cliques or bloc confrontations."
