Queensland police charge 23 men in crackdown on Rebels bikie gang

Queensland police have charged 23 men as part of a significant statewide operation aimed at disrupting the activities of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang. The crackdown involved executing 25 search warrants across the state, from the Gold Coast to Cairns.

During the operation, investigators identified members of the Rebels allegedly wearing vests with subdued or blacked-out insignias in public. Police noted that even with modified patches, these vests still identified the wearer as part of the gang. It is illegal in Queensland to display the logos or "colours" of identified organizations, including various bikie gangs, on clothing, jewelry, or accessories.

The 23 men, aged between 29 and 67, face a total of 44 charges. Notably, 23 of these charges relate to wearing or carrying prohibited items. Authorities indicated that 10 of the men charged are considered senior members of the Rebels, including several high-ranking positions like presidents, a treasurer, a secretary, and state representatives.

The operation was intended to disrupt the Rebels OMCG's ability to publicly display and promote their organisation while supporting ongoing intelligence gathering and organised crime investigations.

Detective Superintendent Troy Pukallus stated that the Queensland Police Service is committed to combating organized crime. He explained the operation's goal was to hinder the Rebels' ability to publicly promote their organization while aiding ongoing intelligence gathering and criminal investigations. Pukallus highlighted the link between OMCGs (Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs) and serious criminal activities such as drug trafficking, firearms offenses, homicide, assault, and extortion.

In addition to the arrests and charges, officers seized multiple firearms, weapons, cocaine, and other drugs during the searches. A weapons license revocation and two consorting notices were also issued. Police confirmed that investigations are continuing.
