Queensland weather: Wintry conditions prevail, hazardous surf to ease in southeast

Queensland is set for a classic wintry week, with dry conditions expected across most of the state. However, the south-east coast, including Brisbane and the Gold Coast, could see some rainfall. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is reminding beachgoers to exercise caution as hazardous surf conditions are expected to ease from Monday.

"Most of the rainfall will be south of Hervey Bay, in Brisbane and down towards the Gold Coast, but generally looking about 5 to 10 millimetres at the most."

A low-pressure system over the southern Coral Sea has generated strong to gale-force south-easterly winds, leading to a damaging surf warning between Moreton Island and the New South Wales border. The bureau recorded a 5.75-meter wave on a Brisbane buoy and a 5-meter wave off Tweed Heads over the weekend. Howe noted that the system is expected to weaken from Monday, though isolated areas might still experience damaging surf.

From Tuesday, showers are forecast along the tropical coast, including the Cairns and Cassowary Coast regions, with some falls also predicted for the Mackay region and Cape York Peninsula. Inland areas are expected to experience temperatures slightly above average for the next couple of days, reaching the mid to high 20s. By the weekend, temperatures are predicted to drop closer to average, with inland areas like Darling Downs and Maranoa potentially seeing minimums of 1 degree Celsius, which is normal for this time of year.

We could still see some isolated damaging surf areas with some remnant large waves, so we're reminding people to take care.
