Quintana Roo Governor Inaugurates First Certified Athletics Track

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has inaugurated Quintana Roo's first certified athletics track, a facility also marking a first for the Yucatán Peninsula. Located in Chetumal's Unidad Deportiva Bicentenario, the new track is designed to bolster high-performance sports and enhance the state's athletic infrastructure.

The construction utilized international standards, with the same company responsible for equipping the Paris 2024 Olympic venues involved in its development. This positions Quintana Roo as a key location for nurturing and developing elite athletes.

During the opening ceremony, which featured the inaugural 100-meter race on the new surface, Governor Lezama acknowledged the contributions of the business sector, the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (Codeq), and the state government. Their collaboration made the project possible through a federal program that offers tax incentives for high-performance sports.

Lezama emphasized that this development is a significant step toward promoting local athletic talent and providing athletes with top-tier facilities for training and competition. The initiative underscores a commitment to improving sports infrastructure within the state.
