Quiroz targets pitching as key for Zulia Eagles

Guillermo Quiroz is set to lead the Zulia Eagles as their manager for the 2026-2027 Venezuelan Professional Baseball League season, taking over from Lipso Nava. Quiroz has pinpointed pitching as the crucial area needing significant enhancement for the team to contend for the title.

In an interview with the podcast "El Infield," Quiroz emphasized that the pitching staff must improve. He is collaborating with the team's sports management to present a stronger performance than last season, when the Eagles reached the postseason but ultimately fell short.

Last season, the Zulia Eagles' pitching was statistically weak. They ranked second to last in collective ERA during the regular season at 5.36, only ahead of the eliminated Caracas Lions. Their performance worsened on the road, where their ERA was a league-worst 6.27. This pattern continued into the postseason, where the team struggled to contain opponents with runners in scoring position, allowing them to hit over .300 and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
