Quito Trail Race by UTMB Inaugurated with International Participation

The Quito Trail Race by UTMB officially launched on July 31, 2026, with an event held at the San Francisco convent in Quito. This third edition of the race will feature six distinct competitions, attracting over 3,000 registered participants, including elite athletes from around the world.

Santiago López, the general director of Quito Trail, welcomed participants and acknowledged those who made the event possible. He highlighted the significant international presence, with more than 420 foreign attendees, and emphasized the race's role in connecting the Pichincha province with Quito's historic center. López stated that each of the 3,300 runners would leave with "stories to tell."

Representatives from international UTMB host nations, including Pascale Marangoni from France, Stefan Kloetzli, the Swiss ambassador, and Daniel Romero, were present to commend the initiative. The event underscores Quito's growing prominence in the global trail running circuit.

The race offers six different routes and start times, all concluding at Plaza de San Francisco. Distances range from the 6K Rana starting at the Teleférico to the challenging 80K Oso, which begins in Mindo. Elite runners, including Alejandrina Villacres from Ecuador and Joaquín Pascales from Argentina, are set to compete across various categories.
