A financial manager for a Quito university was murdered on June 11, 2026, sparking an investigation that has led to the arrest of five adults and the detention of a minor nearly a month later. Prosecutors have charged the suspects with murder and initiated a 90-day fiscal investigation.

The victim, 42, was driving home from work around 6:30 p.m. when he called his wife to report a motorcycle with two occupants was following him. He shared his real-time location before his phone battery died. The attack occurred on the Oswaldo Guayasamín Avenue, where the motorcycle occupants shot into the driver's side of his vehicle. The manager lost control and crashed, and police found him dead inside with at least five bullet impacts on the driver's side window.

The financial manager, 42 years old, left his workplace heading for his home on Thursday afternoon, June 11.

Investigators reviewed security footage from the university and surrounding areas the day after the murder. They also interviewed the victim's family, colleagues, and acquaintances to reconstruct his final movements and identify the attackers' route. The university issued a statement of condolence.
