Quito water company announces service cuts for roadwork on Galo Plaza Lasso

Residents in several areas of Quito will experience temporary water outages as the Metropolitan Public Company of Mobility and Public Works (EPMMOP) carries out essential technical work. These interruptions are part of a larger road rehabilitation project on Galo Plaza Lasso avenue.

The project necessitates the connection of 11 new junctions to the city's potable water distribution network. To facilitate this, water service was suspended starting at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The EPMMOP stated that the cuts are temporary, allowing operational staff to work on the underground infrastructure along Galo Plaza Lasso avenue to ensure the planned civil works progress as scheduled.

A significant number of residential and commercial zones will be affected by the suspension. These include Nazareth, Rumiñahui, Lucía Albán, Cofavi, Ofelia, Agua Clara, California, Julio Matovelle, El Inca, Cucardas, San Isidro del Inca, San Miguel, Amagasí, Baker, Parque Bicentenario, La Kennedy, La Victoria, La Luz, Ex Aeropuerto, and La Florida. The disruption also extends to neighborhoods such as Andalucía, Franklin Tello, La Concepción, Aviación, Civil, Las Acacias, Zaldumbide, Profesor Municipal, Unión Nacional, FAE, Life, Chaupicruz, Voz Andes, Granda Centeno, Quito Tenis, Maldonado, Pinar Bajo, Félix Rivadeneira, San Pedro Claver, Quito Norte, El Rosario, and Los Tulipanes, as well as Thomás Dammer 1 and 2.

The EPMMOP has communicated that water supply is expected to be gradually restored throughout the morning of Thursday, August 6, 2026. While the connections are being finalized, the company has arranged for alternative water supply through water tankers to serve the affected sectors.
