Radar post completed in Hiiumaa to strengthen Estonia's air surveillance

Estonia has completed a new radar post in Kõpu, Hiiumaa, a significant step in bolstering the nation's air surveillance capabilities. The facility, led by the Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (RKIK), houses a powerful, modern air surveillance radar.

The new radar is designed to enhance air defense, particularly in the northwestern and western regions of Estonia. Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur emphasized the critical importance of developing air surveillance for Estonia's military strength. "The development of air surveillance is of paramount importance in increasing Estonia's military capability," Pevkur said. "The new radar improves our ability to monitor the airspace to respond in a timely manner to air threats, primarily in the northern and western directions."
