Rai Launches Internal Review into Matter Involving Deputy Director Ranucci

Rai, Italy's public broadcasting company, has initiated an internal review concerning Deputy Director Sigfrido Ranucci. The company announced that this investigation is being conducted in accordance with its internal procedures and upholds principles of correctness, impartiality, and the protection of Rai's reputation.

The Commission for the Code of Ethics, prompted by the CEO, will undertake the necessary investigative activities. Rai emphasized its commitment to clear and distinct criteria for investigative journalism, aligning with EBU guidelines and its Service Contract. These principles include impartiality, independence, accuracy, rigorous source verification, and proper management of information.

Sigfrido Ranucci, commenting on the internal review, stated he is "very calm." He defended his investigative program, "Report," asserting it deserves respect due to its team's extensive work, rigor, and the risks involved. Ranucci criticized media narratives he deemed "shameful" and suggested that those who fail to recognize the current situation as an attack on "the last bastions of free and independent journalism" are "short-sighted."
