Rail passengers to get sharply lower parking fees at Dongtan and Pyeongtaek-Jije stations

Rail passengers using Dongtan and Pyeongtaek-Jije stations in southern Gyeonggi Province will pay less for long-term parking after Korail Networks took direct control of both facilities.

The company began operating the station parking lots on the first day of the month, taking over from the previous private contractor under an integrated management policy involving Korea Railroad Corporation and SR. It also revised the discount and payment procedures as part of the change.

The main adjustment affects passengers who park for a full day. The discount for rail users previously stood at 10% of the standard fee. Under Korail Networks’ integrated rate system, introduced in September, the discount has risen to 30%, reducing costs for people who leave their cars at the stations while traveling or on business trips.

The new system also links parking administration with shared government information services. Small cars, electric, hybrid and hydrogen vehicles, as well as vehicles for people with disabilities and national merit recipients, can receive a 50% discount automatically without presenting supporting documents. The company expects this to reduce queues at the exit.

Households with at least two children, including a youngest child aged 18 or younger, can also receive a 50% discount. They must register their vehicle in advance through the official parking website or request a refund within 30 days of the exit date.

Jung Jong-sam, acting chief executive of Korail Networks, said direct management would allow the company to provide a more systematic parking service and promised continued improvements to facilities and user convenience.
