Rain and polar cold in Buenos Aires? Here is the weekend forecast

Buenos Aires began Saturday under clear skies and bright sunshine, but the weather could turn by afternoon. The National Meteorological Service forecast a 10% to 40% chance of showers, with temperatures ranging from 7°C to 14°C.

Clouds are expected to persist into the night while the chance of rain falls. Temperatures could drop to 8°C, and southerly winds will make the air feel colder. Afternoon winds are forecast at 23 to 31 km/h, with gusts of 42 to 50 km/h, particularly from morning through afternoon.

Sunday is expected to bring the coldest conditions of the weekend, with a minimum temperature of 3°C and a maximum of 12°C. The sky should remain partly cloudy, but the forecast carries no chance of rain. Monday will improve only gradually, with temperatures between 4°C and 13°C, light winds, and partly to partly cloudy skies. Tuesday will remain cool, ranging from 6°C to 17°C.

The weather service also issued yellow alerts in 12 provinces for strong winds and snowfall. Mendoza and Neuquén could receive heavy snow near the Andes, with accumulations of 5 to 15 centimeters. Lower areas may see rain, snow mixed with rain, or rain.

A separate band of strong southerly winds is expected across parts of Jujuy, Salta, Catamarca, La Rioja, Córdoba, San Juan, San Luis, Mendoza, and Neuquén. Winds there could reach 30 to 45 km/h, with gusts up to 65 km/h. Similar alerts cover southern Buenos Aires province, eastern Río Negro, and southeastern La Pampa.
