Rain causes road blockages, affects traffic on various highways

Heavy rains have triggered widespread road blockages across Nepal, disrupting traffic on numerous highways. The Mid Hill Highway in Tehrathum, Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, Mechi Highway in Ilam, and the Trishuli-Mailung-Safrubensi road in Rasuwa are among the routes severely affected by landslides and erosion.

Authorities have implemented vehicle bans on certain sections of the BP Highway, which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM due to increased flood risk. Traffic is permitted only between 4:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

The Mechi Highway faces a complete halt in traffic due to slippery conditions. Similarly, several parts of the Araniko Highway, particularly in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality and Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality, are completely blocked by landslides. Erosion has also made the Trishuli-Mailung-Safrubensi road impassable, and landslides have blocked the Jajarkot-Dolpa section of the Bheri Corridor.

Police are advising travelers to verify road conditions with relevant agencies before commencing journeys. The ongoing rainy season presents continuous risks of landslides, floods, and road erosion.
