Rain floods Taoyuan school swimming pool, creating 'waterfall' effect

Heavy rainfall in Taoyuan City, Taiwan, led to a dramatic scene at the swimming pool of Xinming Elementary School in Zhongli District, where a 'waterfall' effect occurred due to drainage issues. Videos shared online showed water cascading down the stairwell, prompting concern among residents.

The school's rooftop drainage system was unable to cope with the intense downpour. Leaves had accumulated on the rooftop, obstructing the drainage pipes and causing water to back up. This overflowed into the building's stairwell, creating the visual of a waterfall.

Following the incident, the Taoyuan City Education Bureau stated that the school had cleared the leaves from the rooftop. They confirmed that the swimming pool has since resumed normal operations. School officials are also investigating damaged and blocked drainage pipes, working with the swimming pool's maintenance contractor and an architect to find a solution.

While the immediate issue has been addressed, the event highlights potential infrastructure challenges in managing extreme weather events in the region.
