'Ram-Ram': RSS chief's brief reaction to Ayodhya temple donation row

Rashtriya Swayamsevck Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat offered a brief, pointed response to allegations surrounding the embezzlement of donations for the Ayodhya Ram temple. When asked in Nagpur about claims that some were trying to undermine faith in Lord Ram amid the controversy, Bhagwat simply replied, "Ram-Ram," before moving on.

Bhagwat's remark followed a statement by RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, who expressed deep hurt over the alleged incident. Hosabale stated that the embezzlement "deeply hurt" the faith of Ram devotees and society at large, demanding severe punishment for those found guilty. He also alleged that "anti-Hindu and anti-national forces" were attempting to exploit the situation to malign Hindu dharma, urging patience and restraint from devotees.

The investigation into the alleged financial irregularities has led to the arrest of eight individuals. These include six outsourced employees involved in counting offerings and Ram Shankar Yadav, a close aide to Trust general secretary Champat Rai. Police have intensified their criminal investigation, taking one arrested accused into 24-hour custody for further interrogation, recoveries, and reconstruction of events. The Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) is also probing the financial and administrative functions of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
