Rangers adopt Remo’s Stadium for CAF Champions League

NPFL champions Rangers International have secured an agreement with Remo Stars to use the latter's stadium in Ikenne as their temporary home ground for the upcoming CAF Champions League preliminary rounds. The Enugu-based club will be unable to play at their traditional home, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, commonly known as The Cathedral, because it is currently undergoing renovations.

Rangers opted to adopt the Remo Stars’ facility in Ikenne, which has a 5,000-seat capacity and has previously hosted international fixtures, meeting Confederation of African Football standards. The preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League are scheduled to commence on September 4.

The Flying Antelopes are aiming for an improved performance in Africa's premier club competition after their elimination in the second preliminary round last season by Angolan club Sagrada Esperança. Both Rangers and runners-up Rivers United will represent Nigeria in this season's tournament.

Calls for an expanded CAF Champions League format could offer more opportunities for NPFL clubs in the future. An expansion would potentially increase prize money, broadcast revenue, and high-level competition access for Nigerian clubs, encouraging further investment in infrastructure and player development. For now, Rangers will rely on their temporary Ikenne home to build a successful continental campaign.
