Rapid Coach Gâlcă Departs After Bitter Dispute Over Player Decisions

Constantin Gâlcă concluded his tenure as Rapid's football coach following a goalless draw against Universitatea Craiova, a match marred by fan discontent directed at some players. Gâlcă departed expressing significant disappointment, leveling accusations at the club's leadership.

I am also to blame, but, as I told you, the decisions would have been different if I had made them alone. That's why I held meetings, I stated pros and cons, what I needed in the team. These are decisions that I did not make in total. At Craiova, it was the same, I said one should come, but that one had to come. There, it was also according to the club's possibilities. He revealed that numerous squad decisions were made over his head, and claimed certain players were "personally tied to the management," preventing him from taking disciplinary action. While not naming names, Gâlcă alluded to Alexandru Dobre, a former captain and a favorite of the owners, as one such player. He also indicated his disagreement with the transfers of Daniel Paraschiv and Olimpiu Moruțan.

"I am also to blame," Gâlcă stated, acknowledging his part but reiterating that decisions would have differed if he had sole authority. He explained that he had proposed specific player needs, but transfers like those of Paraschiv and Moruțan, who required time to regain form, were not entirely his choices. He thanked the fans for appreciating the team's efforts but stressed the importance of timely planning and prioritizing professional performance over personal relationships when managing players.

During the press conference, Gâlcă further elaborated that he had not met with owners Șucu or Angelescu since April. He lamented the inability to make necessary decisions for the team's issues, attributing some of the squad's composition to factors beyond his complete control. He stated he would have preferred to leave earlier if he couldn't implement his decisions, emphasizing his direct and transparent approach to management and player assessment based solely on professional merit and club respect.
