Rapper Apologizes for Insulting Late President Roh Moo-hyun

Rapper Rich Iggy, whose lyrics have been at the center of a controversy for allegedly insulting the late former President Roh Moo-hyun, has taken a significant step towards reconciliation by visiting the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation to offer a handwritten apology. The visit occurred just days before a planned performance commemorating the 17th anniversary of Roh's passing, which has since been canceled.

In a statement released on his Instagram, Rich Iggy, whose real name is Lee Min-seo, confessed that his actions, including the use of offensive lyrics, were driven by a desire for fame. He expressed deep remorse for his behavior, acknowledging the negative influence it may have had on young fans and the public. "I promise that I will never again mock or disparage the deceased, or make light of them or mention them in a misguided way," Iggy stated, offering his sincere apologies to the foundation and Roh's family.

Cho Su-jin, the chairperson of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, shared a photograph of Iggy bowing his head while handing over the apology, stating, "We will watch to see if this bowed head is genuine." She issued a stern warning: if Iggy continues to perform songs containing hateful expressions towards former President Roh, pedophilia, or misogyny, the foundation will pursue legal action, including lawsuits to ban the songs, prohibit the use of his stage name, and seek additional damages.

The controversy escalated when Iggy's planned concert on May 23rd—the anniversary of Roh's death—featured ticket prices of 52,300 won, a clear reference to the date. This, coupled with lyrics deemed offensive, led to the cancellation of the concert by the venue and organizers, who also issued apologies. Other rappers who were slated to collaborate with Iggy, including Paloalto and Deepflow, also released apologies, acknowledging their own lack of judgment in participating in projects that could cause harm.

This incident highlights the enduring sensitivity surrounding the legacy of former President Roh Moo-hyun in South Korea and the strong stance taken by his foundation and supporters against any form of disrespect.
