Rare 120kg Sea Turtle Rescued and Released by Vietnamese Fisherman

A fisherman in Cà Mau province, Vietnam, has been commended for his actions after rescuing a rare and heavy sea turtle. Trần Bé Ngoan, 39, discovered the approximately 120 kg sea turtle, nearly a meter long, caught in his fishing net early on July 18th. Instead of proceeding with his catch, Ngoan immediately contacted the border guard station in Đất Mũi commune. He then worked with the Đất Mũi Border Guard Post and the Ngọc Hiển Forest Ranger Department to ensure the creature's safe return to its natural habitat. Lieutenant Colonel Đinh Hoàng Thân, head of the Đất Mũi Border Guard Post, highlighted the significance of the rescue. "Sea turtles are a rare and precious species listed in Vietnam's and the world's Red Books, facing the risk of extinction, and thus belong to a group of strictly protected animals," he stated. Thân praised Ngoan's initiative, emphasizing that his actions not only saved a rare wild animal but also promoted environmental awareness among the coastal fishing community. The incident underscores the importance of protecting endangered marine life and the role of local communities in conservation efforts.
